Is America ready for a Black President?

March 2, 2008 at 12:35 am (Uncategorized)

Hmmmm…President Clinton or President Obama…which sounds better? Well the former sounds very familiar as it’s already happened before. However, the latter sounds very unique and has a certain ring to it…ok ok I’m not going to lie it sounds weird but still, weird things are good…right?

Ok as some of you may have clocked on by now- I am supporting Barack Obama in his campaign to become the next President of the United States. I’m not even gonna try and spin some cock and bull about how I agree with his policies or whatever because to be honest, I don’t even have a clue what his policies are about yeah but what I do know is that he is a black man…yep…I’m supporting him simply because of the fact that he is a black man.

Now don’t get me wrong yeah…I got mad love for Hillary as well you know because as a female she is doing it big right now. I love Hillary Clinton; I think she is the epitome of a 21st Century woman and I love how she handled her business when the whole Bill and Monica Lewinsky fling became public knowledge. However, I feel like she’s already had her time in the White House- her husband was President, she lived there…let Barack and his family live there too!!Its the turn of the Obamas. Nah but for real, I wouldn’t mind if Hillary Clinton won these elections, but I would MUCH rather Obama won, in order to prove to the world that a Black man is indeed capable of running the most powerful country in the world.

People are taking the piss you know with the notion that a Black man could actually run America…I beg someone to please enlighten me on what exactly is so funny about that since I fail to see the joke for myself. Even BLACK PEOPLE themselves are taking the piss. I was watching Def Comedy Jam recently, and Martin Lawrence made a quip about how if a Black man was elected into the White House, the lawn wouldn’t be mowed (of course it would…I mean maybe not as regularly as it should be done BUT it would still get done), there would be barbecques in the backyard even in winter (that’s not true…for winter time the barbecques would be indoors), family reunions like every week (nah man only when someone needs money or something), and there would be a basketball hoop in the garden (I don’t know about that…I prefer Athletics myself).

The point I’m trying to make is that people shouldn’t write Obama off just because he’s Black. I saw the pictures that were circulating in the news recently of him wearing Muslim dress robes and a turban…SO WHAAAAT???!!!!??What the fuck (excuse my French) is all the hype about…shiiittt give the man a break he was just embracing his heritage and culture (his father is Kenyan!!) Apparently some of the big news corporations think that now that those pictures are out, his chances will begin to fade if Americans will begin to associate him with Islam…oh my gosh are you serious?!?

No offence but I reeeeaaalllly don’t understand Americans sometimes.I know the stigma they have attached to Islam and people of the Muslim religion because of 9/11 and all but still, they shouldn’t write the man off because of some attire he was pictured wearing.Oh yeah they would rather have someone who actually managed to utter these words: “I hope the day will come when human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully together”.

LMAO…WTF?!?

Yeah they feel safe with Bush because of 9/11 and that and the majority are probably think Clinton would be best as she’s had the ‘experience’ with her husband being former President and all…but its time for a change…Barack Obama is the person to instigate that change nd that’s why i say…BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!

Busker has his money stolen by group of teens

February 26, 2008 at 11:06 pm (Uncategorized)

A busker had money stolen from his guitar case on Saturday afternoon.

Jeff Thornbourne, 36, of no fixed address was performing infront of the ’Boots’ store on the Winchester high street when he was distracted by a group of rowdy teenaged boys.

Turning his back to his guitar case, Thornbourne proceeded to serenade an elderly member of his audience when he was distracted by jeers and the sound of running feet.

Mr Thornbourne said: “I had my back turned to sing to an old dear who had stopped to watch me. All of a sudden I heard someone in my audience shout out ‘Oi!’ When I turned around I saw about four or five lads giving each other high fives and running off. I looked at my guitar case and they had just tossed it aside and nicked all my money.”

Mr Thornbourne, who has performed in the city centre on a number of occassions has decided not to report the incident to the police.

He said: “I just don’t want to waste their time on something like this when they could be out there catching murderers and all sorts.”

The incident is allegedly the first of its kind to have occurred in the city centre, which is known for its performers who come out to entertain the shoppers on a regular basis.

Margaret Sipkin, 63, of Wavell Way said: “I’m shocked at the behaviour of some of these young ones. The reason we get so many performers in the city centre’s because it’s a lovely place but some of these youths are just hell-bent on tarnishing that image.”

Mr Thornbourne has insisted that this incident will not deter him from continuing to perform in the city centre.

Controversial Ivorian ‘Booty-Shaking’ music video

February 21, 2008 at 3:02 pm (Uncategorized)

A new music video is currently the subject of much controversy in the Ivory Coast. The name of the song is ‘Bobaraba’ which apparently means big bottom in the local dialect. The music video also features ‘rump-shaking’ aplenty-displayed by both females and even males.

Since the release of the song in the Ivory Coast, people are now said to be soughting after “booty-enhancers”. These are so-called ‘magic-workers’ which enables a person’s derriere to grow bigger, and these ‘magic-workers’ come in the form of either powders, pills, or even drinks.

However, local Physicians are now warning the Ivorian public-especially the women- about the dangers of taking these substances and how they are more likely to cause long-term internal damage rather than giving you a bigger bottom.

Now personally,I feel it’s stupid to be selling these ‘magic-workers’ or whatever they are called because; Ivorians are black people- I mean we all know many black people already have quite a lot of “junk in their trunk”-HOW MUCH BIGGER DO WE WANT TO GO for God’s sake?!? We can’t all be as blessed as Buffie ‘The Body’ Carruth.

Home Secretary’s new crime tackling plans

February 20, 2008 at 6:30 pm (Uncategorized)

The Home Secretary yesterday unveiled a package of actions to tackle serious crimes committed by youngsters.

Jacqui Smith has set out a plan that highlights actions the Labour party aims to undertake in order to reduce knife-crimes, murders, gang-related crimes and domestic violence.

The key measures of the plan includes being able to prosecute individuals found carrying a knife and tougher sentences for those convicted of knife-crime. Additional proposals set out by this new action plan, which will see the Labour party working alongside Local Agencies and Police, also includes a campaign to challenge the peer pressure that drives many youngsters to knife-crime, and increasing the number of Sexual Assault centres for victims of sexual offences.

In response to the new proposals, the Home Secretary said: “We are determined not to let violent offenders get away with wrecking lives by stopping them committing  crimes in the first place. We have made good progress- violent crime has now fallen by 31% since 1997, and the risk of being a victim of serious violence remains extremely low. The challenge now is to ensure that the good practice we have developed is applied as widely as possible, to the benefit of everyone in all communities.”

The new scheme is already being piloted in four counties consisting of Hampshire, Cleveland, Warwickshire and Cambridgeshire.

John McDonnell-Local MP for Hayes & Harlington

February 20, 2008 at 2:57 pm (Uncategorized)

John McDonnell is a left-wing Labour MP for the constituency of Hayes & Harlington. He ran for the post of the Labour party’s new leader after Tony Blair resigned. However, he was unsuccessful after being beaten to second place by Gordon Brown.

McDonnell was originally born in Liverpool in 1951 but when he was 23, he moved to Hayes to attend Brunel University, whilst also helping his wife to run a small children’s home in the local area. He was elected to the Greater London Council (GLC) to represent Hayes & Harlington in 1981, and was also Ken Livingstone’s (mayor of London) deputy leader. McDonnell was removed from this post by Livingstone in 1985 due to disagreements about the GLC’s budget (for which McDonnell was in charge of).

Following the abolishment of the GLC, McDonnell was employed as head of the policy unit at Camden Council. He fought for the seat in his hometown of Hayes & Harlington in 1992 but lost by 53 votes. His campaign was marred by controversy when his opponent from the Tory party, Terence Dicks, sued him for libel over material in his campaign leaflets, but McDonnell settled this by paying his opponent a total of £55,000.

McDonnell was elected to Parliament in the 1997 general election with 62% of the vote. As chair of the Labour Representation Committee ( a left-wing group of Labour activists, local parties, trade unions and MPs which campaigns for the adoption of a raft of socialist policies by the Labour government), he has voted against a number of controversial government policies including the Iraq War, Labour’s anti-terrorism laws, introducing student top-up fees and ID Cards.

Kanye West and Friedrich Nietzsche

February 12, 2008 at 10:26 pm (Uncategorized)

Kanye West is currently one of the biggest selling Hip-Hop artists in the Urban music industry. He has won countless awards including ten Grammys, five MOBOs and one BRIT.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a philosopher of German heritage, whose critiques were predominantly based on issues of Religion, Morality, Contemporary Culture, Philosophy and Science. Nietzsche was responsible for the saying “What does not kill me can only make me stronger”.

This philosophy was adopted as a lyric by West in his Grammy Award winning 2007 hit song ‘Stronger’. The chorus of the song contains the lyrics “Now that that don’t kill me can only make me stronger”-stemming from Nietzsche’s quote that “What does not kill me makes me stronger”.

The song ‘Stronger’ also makes references to Charles Darwin and God

The first lecture

February 9, 2008 at 10:51 am (Uncategorized)

Wha Gwan!

My name’s Regina…I’m 18-years-old and studying Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Winchester. I’m originally from Hayes,Middlesex  and I’m repping West London to the max.I beg all you West London haters need to step out off my face yeah because chat your breeze to me and you will get a quick backhand no lie.I love Arsenal football team (BRAP BRAP) it’s all about the Gunners!!Haters can suck out.

I was supposed to post a blog about the first ‘People and Politics’ lecture quite a while ago but because I was too dutty to figure out how to create an account, it has taken me a bit longer than required but finally…here it is…my first blog post.

I found the first lecture quite boring to be honest. I feel that this might be primarily due to the fact that I have never studied Politics in depth before. However, I was aware of some of the statements being made in the lecture. I am hoping that as the module progresses, my knowledge of the topic will gradually expand.

That’s it for now.Don’t want to be on here writing no essay thing you get me.

Bless!
